Hi Pat, Information for the record: I ordered and obtained the existing military service records for Jonathan Denton, first husband of Sarah (nee Hutson), daughter of Skinner and Jane Hutson, and for Isaac Hutson. Both Jonathan Denton and Isaac Hutson began military service on May 2nd, 1812, as Privates in Captain Parmenas Beckes' Company of U.S. Mounted Rangers. (Isaac Hutson's wife and children were killed by Indians on April 11th, 1812, in what has since been called "The Hutson Massacre" which occurred at the mouth of Hutson Creek--in Illinois-- where it feeds into the Wabash River.) According to the record, Jonathan Denton was killed on November 22, 1812, at what is called "the Second Battle of Tippecanoe" or, more specifically, in a skirmish with Indians that has since been referred to as "Spur's Defeat." Denton's military file consists of eight muster roll cards and about 12 pages of documents, including one according to which Sarah affirms that Jonathan's death left her a widow with three children: Jane (6 yrs. old), James (4 yrs. old), and Elizabeth (2 years old). She also affirms that she married James Kilgore on March 1, 1814. There is now no doubt in my mind that Jane Denton, Jonathan and Sarah's daughter was the same Jane Denton who married Joseph Stroup in Madison Co. OH in 1827, I believe. Thanks for telling me about Jonathan and Sarah Denton. --Terry Notify Administrator about this message?
