Roberta; I believe that Nehemiah is his Father also. Don't know if you found this little item in Jefferson twp or not on him, but will add it here if not - Along about the beginning of the present century, Nehemiah Gates came into the twp, and remained until after the war of 1812, when he returned to Virginia, his native state, and married a Miss (Nancy) Johnson, and again came to Madison Co. She bore him 9 chidren, viz..Ezra, Miar (believe this is Nehemiah), Jacob, Henry, Mary, Eliza, Olive, Rebecca and Harriet. His wife died, and he was subsequently married three times. The 2nd and 3rd left no issue, but his 4th wife was Susan Johnson, a sister of his lst wife, who bore him 2 sons. Mr Gates was a native of New York, and after his final settlement on Little Darby, he assisted in erecting a mill on that stream. We find his name among the first juries of Madison Co. I found 4 marriages in Mad. Co for Nehemiah. they were Amanda Farnham, m. May 27, 1824 Presilla Clement m. Mar 30, 1826 Hannah Mills, m. Dec 6, 1827 Susan Johnson m. Dec 16, 1831 Mad. Co has a web site that lists all of their cases, ie, marriages, births and deaths 1867 to 1908, and all court cases. In case you want to look at it, it's Madison Co Juvenile/Probate Court. I believe theres marriages for 4 of Henry's siblings listed. There is also a case for Nehemiah from 1842 when he died listing all of his belongings, but no children mentioned any where in the case. I looked in ancestry.com and found several people that listed this family. There wasn't that many Nehemiah Gates listed. But most of them show Henry being born around 1805. I would like to help more, but the library kicked us out about a year ago and all of our books are in boxes. We do have a reader we can use to look at the newspapers with the obits, but it doesn't have a copier on it.
