I have reason to believe my great-great-grandfather, John A. Masteller, came from Marion County, Ohio. Based on researching of cemetery and census records, I am certain that he is the John A. Mossler listed in the Marriage records book 4 page 69, as marrying Mary Neil. Mary was the daughter of Jonathan and Nancy Neel/Neal/Neil. The Masteller and Neal families, along with the Joseph Campbell family, moved to Iowa county, Iowa in 1853. Mary and two daughters died in 1855 and were buried in the Campbell family cemetery. Jonathan Neel/Neal/Neil is also buried there. Joseph Campbell's first wife was named Eliza A. Neel/Neal/Neil, also a daughter of Jonathan. The Joseph Cambells were married in Marion county, Ohio in 1848 (marriage records volume 3 page 252). I have located all but John Mossler in the 1850 Federal Census in Marion County in Montgomery and Grand Prairie townships. I have not been able to locate John Mossler/Masteller/Mastler in any of the censuses and am now at the proverbial brick wall. I am certain he came to Iowa from Ohio, but was born somewhere in Pennsylvania. Checking the census indices for Ohio and looking at each name listed on the referenced census sheets, I have not found anyone who is remotely connected to my Masteller family. I know that the indices are incomplete as I have found a John Masteller at approx 63 years of age in the 1860 Marion county census and he is not shown in the appropriate index. I found the these Mastellers in the Montgomery township cemetery: MASTELLER, Elizabeth d/o J. & M.A. d Jul 20 1852 Aged: 18y 2m Montgomery (66) Montgomery MASTELLER, John d Aug 18 1869 Aged: 72y Montgomery (66) Montgomery I am asking if anyone has any information on John Masteller and his daughter, listed above, and on John A. Mossler. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Colin Keith Davis John A. Masteller - Sarah Newland Charles F. Masteller - Princess Rosetta Staton Goldie Marie Masteller - Wilbur A.
