Lemuel J Sherman was a son of Asahel Sherman b. 05 March 1801, died 25 July 1861 in Morrow, Cardington Co., Ohio; his mother was Catherine Ryan b. 14 Jul 1814 in Ohio, died 12 July 1873 in Ohio. Lemuel appears to have been the youngest of 11 children. I would be happy to share info on the Sherman family and am looking for the parents of Asahel Sherman's mother, Lois Peckham, b. abt. 1765 in New York, died aft. 31 July 1850 in Ohio. Her husband was Lemuel's grandfather, Amasa Sherman, b. 11 Sep 1765 in Dartmouth, Mass., died 16 Oct. 1849 in Marion Co., Ohio. I have been tracing our family descent through Amasa and Lois Sherman's daughter Sarah, born 12 March 1800 in New York, just a year older than her brother Asahel. She married William D. Purvis and died 01 Oct 1884 in Morrow Co., Ohio.Two of Lemuel's brothers appear to have died in the Civil War, two others lived into the 1920s as he did. More info on them welcome!
