I am asking for any information on the Joseph Lemon family living from 1799-1809 in Concord Twp., Ross Co., OH. Joseph Lemon/Lemmon married Elizabeth McCartney, daughter of Rev. War veteran James McCartney, in 1799 in Ross Co., OH. The James McCartney family lived in Westmoreland Co., PA, before moving to the Bourbon Co., KY, area in 1793. In 1804, James moved to Concord Twp., Ross Co., OH, living near his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Joseph Lemon. Joseph and Elizabeth had sons Andrew, b. c. 1809, Joseph, b.c. 1808, Thomas, and James. Joseph, the father, died around 1809, Ross Co. and supposedly had a will at Chillicothe. I have seen other people's posts dating his death as around 1806, but I have found my Joseph on the Ross Co. tax list for 1807 and 1808. His will was probated 1809, and his widow Elizabeth is shown has head of the house on the 1810 tax list. There are not two Joseph Lemons (last name spelled in any way)on official records for Ross Co. in that time period. My ancestor is Joseph's son Andrew who married Jane Bryant/Bryan/Brian, daughter of John Bryant, in 1835 in Ross Co. At this point, I am working under the theory that my Joseph was himself from Westmoreland Co., PA, since he married into a family from that same location and the James Lemon, Sr., family was in Westmoreland Co for a time. Additionally Elizabeth McCartney's mother was Mary "Mollie" Jamison. Mary's parents lived in Franklin Co., PA, and died on a trip to see their other adult children living in Westmoreland Co. Some of these Jamison adult children moved into the surrounding area of Concord Twp., Ross Co., OH, near the Joseph Lemon family and the James McCartneys. I think my Joseph may be the son of James/John Lemon, Sr., d.c. 1782, from Tyrone Co., Ireland, the brother of Robert, Thomas, John, James, Archie, etc., and the Rev. War veteran listed with same on other posts. On various records the family name is Lemon/Lemmon/Lamon/Lammon/Lemen. Widow Elizabeth "Betsy" Lemmon married James Lee in Ross Co., in 1818. She died in 1856 in Anderson, Madison Co., IN, where she migrated with and lived near her sons Andrew and Joseph. Any information on the Lemon/Lemmon family in Ross Co., OH, in the late 1700s, early 1800s in Ross Co. will be apreciated. Or for that matter, any additional information, positive or negative, on the Joseph, son of James/John Lemon/Lemmon,Sr.,d.c. 1782 from Tyrone Co., Ireland. A Joseph Lemon is listed as serving in the disasterous Sandusky/Crawford Expedition of 1782. If my Joseph and this one are the same, he, then, would have been familiar with the greater Ross County, OH, area. Any information or connections will be most appreciated.
