I am hoping someone on this list will recognize this family information. I feel almost certain that all of the people are correctly connected. I do apologize that it is such a long read but trying to cover all bases. Ona Stanley, was born in West Virginia, probably Union District of Wayne County, West Virginia, on January 23, 1899. Her parents were Flem/Fleming Stanley and Eva (Bench) Stanley. Ona died in Logan County, West Virginia on April 17, 1963. Her residence is listed as Wilkinson, Logan County, West Virginia. Burial place listed as Shoals, West Virginia, Thompson-Plymale Cemetery. I have not been able to view a photo of her actual death certificate, the L.D.S. site has some of the information listed and they have her as widowed. Either she married someone with her same surname or that piece of information was in error. I have emailed the West Virginia Division of Culture and History web site as to why her death certificate does not show up. Could it be they do not have '1963’ deaths loaded yet? Ezra Stanley and Sattie (McCoy) Stanley, were Ona’s brother and sister-in-law. Do not know if they were living in Bloom Township, Scioto County, Ohio or just visiting someone there? But they both died on the same day, July 31, 1930. Sattie’s death certificate information has cause of death listed as, revolver shot in chest-homicide. So I sense it is a possibility they were both murder victims or a homicide-suicide situation. Sattie’s name is listed as Saltro May Stanley on Ezra’s death certificate and his parents were Flem Stanley and Eva Bench. Estimated birth year for Ezra was 1907, at time of death he was 23 years and 6 months. Unable to fully view his death certificate, there is an attachment across the middle of it because the county registrar forgot to sign the certificate so it was returned to Scioto County, Ohio for completion. Sattie May/Saltro May/Sattie Elizabeth (McCoy) Stanley was the daughter of Thomas Hayes McCoy, born Pike County, Kentucky and Hester (Prichard) McCoy, born Fallsburg, Kentucky. Sattie was born, February 7, 1912 in Wayne County, West Virginia. Burial place, Hunington, West Virginia. Think that should probably be Huntington, West Virginia? Informant was Hester McCoy, no address listed. Flem Stanley (father of Ona and Ezra Stanley) was born in Virginia, on July 4, 1879 or 1878. Parents listed as Jim Stanley and Spurgeon, no first name listed for his mother. Flem died December 30, 1955 in Wayne County, West Virginia, address listed as Wayne, West Virginia, rural Ceredo, R#1. He was 76 years of age and burial place was McCoy Cemetery. Informant was Sarah Stanley, unknown to me her relationship to Flem, perhaps second wife? *All the above information was from their death certificates, except the name Sattie Elizabeth McCoy. Cenus information for the family: 1900 census Union District Wayne County, West Virginia Fleming Stanley, head, July 1878, age 21, Virginia, Virginia, Virginia, laborer-railroad Eva Stanley, wife, July 1878, age 21, W. Virginia 1920 census Union, Wayne County, West Virginia Fleming Stanley, head, 41, farmer Eva Stanley, wife, 41 Ona Stanley, daughter, 20 Ezra Stanley, son, 15 Eva Stanley, daughter, 11 Shirley Stanley, daughter, 4, born in West Virginia Hezekiah Bench, father-in-law, 84, widow, West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Clabe Stanley, I believe is the brother of Fleming Stanley. I do not have clear cut documentation of any kind as of yet to prove their connection. Clabe’s obituary below. Clabe Stanley, 1726 Eighth Street, died today at 4:40 a. m. at the home of his son, Manley Stanley. Mr. Stanley has been ill two years with heart trouble. He suffered his last attack May 13 and failed to rally. Mr. Stanley had lived in Portsmouth the last 30 years and had been a blacksmith for the N. & W. and Wheeling Steel Corp. He was born May 15, 1865, in Scott County, Virginia. He was married 45 years ago to Rose Strothers, who died in 1919. In 1923, Mr. Stanley was united in marriage to Cora Powell, who also preceded him in death in August, 1935. Surviving are four children and three stepchildren, Mrs. Lillian Newman, 1716 High Street, Manley Stanley, 1726 Eighth, Clarence Stanley of Cleveland, Allen Stanley of Washington, D. C. Ewell Strothers of Mound Street, Robert Strothers of Wheelersburg and Mrs. Bertha Keene of Maloneton. One brother, FLENN STANLEY of Buffalo Shoals, W. Va., and two grandchildren, Clinton Stanley and Joan Newman, also survive. Burial will be in old Wheelersburg cemetery. Clabe’s death took place in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, on May 20, 1938. Unknown newspaper for the above obituary. The information for the obituary and death certificate were provided by Clabe’s son Manley Stanley. Evidently he did not know the names of Clabe’s parents, listed as ‘don’t know’ *Rose Strothers, was Rose/Rosa (Handley) Strothers Stanley, daughter of Ewell McK. Handley and Mary E. Hall, born in Waterloo, Ohio. *Cora Powell, was Cora (Boyd) Powell, daughter of James Boyd and Elizabeth Hortchell/Houtchell. A lookup that was done for me regarding the marriage of Clabe Stanley and Cora (Boyd) Powell in Greenup, Kentucky where they were married has Clabe’s parents listed as James Stanley and a Sally/Sallie Stengill (am told her maiden name was very difficult to decipher). Stengill, Stengall, Spurgeon????? I have run across this name variation for Clabe: Henry C. Stanley, Claiborne Stanley, Claybourne Stanley. So you can see what a little piece of the puzzle I have for Flem/Fleming and Clabe Stanley, but I do believe I am on the right track. Have not been able to locate Clabe and Fleming for the 1880 census and have been searching for at least three years if not longer. If you know anything please contact me. Thank you, Deborah Stanley Notify Administrator about this message?
