Notes for VERY REVEREND MONSIGNOR VERY REVEREND JAMES MOSCOW, CATHOLIC PRIEST:
Monsignor James Vincent Moscow was engaged to Jeannette O'Connor. She died very young and after her death he was ordained a priest and went on to become a Monsignor in charge of all the Catholic Hospitals in the Chicago land diocese. He was included in all of our family gatherings and treated as the uncle he would have been.He officiated at the weddings of Beatrice O'Connor-Martin-Boesen and Margo O'Connor-Mundt as well as mine, Mary Jeanne Bray-Monhardt.He did not perform the wedding ceremony for Mary Jeanne and Richardt Monhardt, he sat in a chair of honor on the altar in his red robes and hat.Jim took Jeannette's engagement ring and had it set into his Chalice, so that he would see it every time he said Mass.Father Jim must have had great regard for Jeannette all of his life. When, Eleanor and Beatrice and I went to his funeral we found that he had his parents dis-interred and removed from St. Adlebert Cemetery, Irving Park Blvd. to All Saints Cemetery so that he could be buried as close to Jeannette and our family as possible.
When I looked at the some of the old pictures, there was one of a man I could not identify and I asked Mom.She said, "Oh, that's Jim Moscow."I was really surprised, he was gorgeous, a really nice looking man.

Notes for JEANNETTE O'CONNOR:
Obituary for Jeannette O'Connor
Jeannette O'Connor of 214 LaPorte Avenue, beloved dauther of Maurice and Jeannette, nee
Tracy, fond sister of Elanore, Margaret, Maurice, Ruth, Martha and Beatrice O'Connor. At the
Chaple, 17 Madison Street, Oak park, Illinois. The funeral Wednesday, 9 a.m. at St. Thomas
Aquinas church, Internment All Saints, Cemetery.
Chicago Tribune
Tuesday, February 22, 1938
Jeannette Tracy was the first child of seven born to Jeannette Tracey and Maurice O'Connor. Jeannette was a successful fashion model for Marshall Fields, as well as many other companys. She was also featured often the Society Pages as she was instrumental in the planning of many of the Social functions and dances at Notre Dame College.
Jeannette was engaged to another when she met Jim Moscow, she ended that relationship shortly after she met Jim.Jim and his parents lived on the South Side of Chicago. After a while she became engaged to James Moscow. But Jim had a friend, a priest named Father Coyle that was critical of their relationship because he felt that Jim had a vocation. But, Jeannette was also very religious.I remember seeing a letter that a priest wrote to her.Jeannette was the source of a conversation between the priest and a married man.The priest wrote commenting about her pure spirit.
Jim stopped at the house when Jeannette was in St. Anne's Hospital and saw Ruth playing outside. He asked her if she wanted to go to the Hospital to see Jeannette and she replied yes.He told her to clean up and change out of her play clothes.Ruthie, as Jim called her, recalls that he said pray like you've never prayed before.Ruth was not able to see Jeannette because of Hospital rules.Jeannette died the next day and Jim spoke to Ruth and said, "When I got up this morning the sun was still shining".
She died very young, she was only 25, and was supposed to have a double wedding with my mother Eleanor.Jeannette passed away six months before she was to be married to James Moscow.
Jim Moscow went on to become a Monsignor in the Catholic Church. He was head of all Catholic Hospitals in the Chicago land area..He was included in all of our family gatherings and was treated as the uncle he would have been.Heofficiated atthe marriages ofBeatrice and Margo.Father Jim took Jeannette's engagement ring and had it set into his chalice and I'm sure remembered her every time he said mass.Father Jim, as we all called him, officiated at my wedding, me being Mary Jeanne Bray-Monhardt.He wore his red robes and sat in a large chair just to the right side of the altar while I was being married and just about knocked the socks off our parish priest.
Jim must have loved Jeannette all of his life. When Eleanor, my mom, Aunt Bea and I went to his funeral we found that he had his parents exhumed and placed close to Jeannette. He was also buried as
close to her as he could be.She was beautiful, I have some of her print work from the newspapers andshe was truly gorgeous. When she passed away, her mother had to ask Marshall Fields to take the pictures of her out of their windows.I guess the reminders made her sad and uneasy.Of all of the cousins, Eileen Burke looks the most like her.But all of my cousins are really good looking, even the boys.
Jeannette was an avid swimmer, as was my mother, her sister Eleanor.Against her father's wishes, she entered a competition and won a medal for swimming the Chicago River.Tom Skahen, her cousin, was in row boat watching out for her all the while she swam. Her medal is in the possession of Eleanor Bray, in the front bedroom closet, used as a pull to turn on the closet light.
Jeannette Duffin Cichon and I, Mary Jeannette Bray -Monhardt, her nieces are named for her.
This an amazing transcript of a letter for and about Jeannette O'Connor
St. Thomas Church
St. Thomas, North Dakota
January 26th, 1937
Dear Miss O'Connor,
Last Wednesday I was returning from a trip to Ireland when a gentleman on the
train came over to me and asked me if I was a Catholic priest.I told him I was and then he asked me
if he could have a talk with me as he was very worried.I said OK.He then produced identification
cards. His name was Sidney A. Block. He then unveiled a long story. It lasted for two hours. The sum
total of the story was this.He was married, had two children an was anxious to divorce his wife and
marry you if you would marry him.To my great delight, he told me that you would not marry him. Then
he asked for advice.I gave him the advice that all Catholic Priests will give viz to return to his wife &
children. He said he would try. Then he asked me if I would write to you and tell you that the only way
he can possibly forget you is by not seeing you.I told him I would oblige him by writing to you.
Incidentally, I might mention that from what this gentlemen has told me about you I
only wished more Catholic girls were made of the same metal as you. From your good example you
have made this Jew believe in the Divinity of Jesus Christ.
Please do not consider this an intrusion into your private affairs.I am writing be-
cause I was asked, and I am only fulfilling a promise. The greatest happiness in the world comes from
having a clear , peaceful conscience.May you always be happy.
Sincerely in Christ
Father Michael McNamee
Note:Sidney A. Block was a very wealthy and successful businessman who owned a large clothingmanufacturing company.
