Sydney, This is what I found: The Gracemont Graphic, Gracemont, Caddo Co, Oklahoma Friday, June 24, 1910, vol 5, number 7 page 8 (unnumbered) column 2 Death of L H Smith Mr Lewis H Smith suddenly died at his home three and a half miles northwest of town last Friday, June 17th at the age of seventy-two years, ten months and twenty-eight days, his advanced age and general debility being the cause of his death. Mr Smith was a pioneer setter here and as a man and citizen was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and his many friends were grieved to hear of his death. Funeral services were held at his home by Rev Miller of the M E church on Saturday, after which interment was made in Gracemont cemetery. Mr Smith was born in Illinois on July 19, 1837. He was married to Miss Nannie Eness in 1878. Four children were born to them, Harmon B, Mary Maud, Lewis Walter, and Ella May, all of whom were present at the funeral except Lewis Walter. Mr Smith enlisted in the Union Army in 1861, served four years, six months and twenty days, and was honorably discharged in 1865. Since coming to Oklahoma he has made his home with his children. ------------------- Sydney - note the date of his death is the 17th, rather than the 7th. Also, Harmon B (very clear) is probably Harmon R (a typesetting mistake) since the son's name was Ross. The obituary is very clear and easy to read. The front page of the paper is attractive as well, advertising the Chautauqua coming to the area. If you want a photocopy, contact the Oklahoma Historical Society with the paper and page information. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgs/ohsrlib.htm Fronia Notify Administrator about this message?
