Hi Liz,

Yes there was a woman sheriff of Coal County. Her name was Ethel Clark. Ethel was the wife of Walter Clark who was the sheriff but he died during his 5th term in office on June 18, 1941. His wife, Ethel, served out the rest of his term. They are both buried at Byrd's Prarie Cemetery in Tupelo, Coal, OK.
Walter Clark was my grandmother's brother.
