Western Plains Weatherford Genealogical Society has finished gathering records & updating the Custer County Cemetery book records. We are proud to offer the updated Cemetery book "Gateways To Our Past ~ Custer County OK Cemeteries" for sell now. The book is over 488 pages, placed in a 3 inch D ring notebook that can be added to in the future. We have included a fold out map of the county that shows the cemeteries labeled & marked with driving directions to each one & photos of the cemetery gates. 12 separate cemetery plot maps for the larger cemeteries. The Updated Custer County Cemetery Book is selling for $50.00 + $5.00 postage. Western Plains Genealogical Society Members price is $45.00. You may place your order with the the society at WPWGS PO BOX 1672 Weatherford OK 73096 Or reach us at our new Research Center located at 520 West Main,(5th & W. Main) 1 block north of Weatherford City Hall. Our Research center is open- 3 days a week, Tues afternoons 2-4, Thur evenings 6-8, & Sat mornings 10-12. We have a growing obituary collection & can do lookups & make copies for a small fee if we locate one. We publish a newsletter 4 times a year to members "The Western Plainsman" Queries are always welcome. Our membership dues are only $18.00 a year & $20.00 for family membership. WE meet the 3rd Monday of the months of Sept. Oct. Nov. Feb. March. April, & May. We have a Beginners Workshop at the end of Jan. & a Christmas dinner in Dec. We are working with the Western Okla Historical Center Inc., who have moved in a one room Cedar Schoolhouse next door & have no have changing exhibits in the schoolhouse. The WOHC also are in charge of the Blair one room Log cabin across from the Weatherford Post office. The Custer County Master Gardeners have an Heirloom garden planted on the lot that is wonderful to see. The lot was recently given a face lift with a scenic mural painted by Bob Palmer. The group was recently presented with a 2004 Civic Improvement Award for their efforts. Stop by & see it for a glance at the past..
