Am looking for the family history of J.M. LENTZ who owned a store in Golconda. He may have been married to Rosella FREMEN (or FREEMAN), who is from my family. Would like to know if they had children and who they were. Please, read the following newspaper article... The MUSKOGEE DAILY PHOENIX (newspaper) - December 22, 1894 Eufaula, Indian Territory (I.T.), December 19th: Deputy Marshall JOHNSON arrived last night with Columbus ROSE, a Cherokee Indian, and John MORROW, a white man, charged with robbing J.M. LENTZ's store at Golconda, and Featherstone's (Featherston?) store, at Featherston(e), I.T., a few nights ago. They also attempted to rob the store of J.R. PEARCE, at Texanna, Tuesday night, but were fired upon by A.J. POWELL, a clerk in the store, and, driven off, taking only a saddle and a pair of boots. ROSE is supposed to be the man who killed Postmaster RUSSELL at Briartown last July, for which crime John PEARCE was arrested not long since. JOHNSON also has John PEARCE under arrest for horse stealing. ROSE and PEARCE were captured at Younger Bend, in the Cherokee Nation, and MORROW was captured at Enterprise, in Choctaw Nation. The Marshall and posse left again tonight in search of the remainder of the gang, which is supposed to be in the mountains of the Choctaw Nation, southeast of Eufaula, and will very likely capture the whole outfit, consisting of eight or ten men. ROSE has confessed to being implicated in the Featherston(e) and Golconda robberies. –Taken from "McIntosh County Memories: People - Places - Events" by C.W. "Dub" WEST, Editor, 1993. Thank you!
