I have sent you another message to your email address. George Mackey was my great-grandfather's oldest brother. George and Robert Mackey were sons of James Tyre Mackey and Martha Stovall. JT & Martha had eleven children including four boys, all of whom (the boys, that is) moved to the Checotah area in Cherokee Nation of Indian Territory just prior to the turn of the century. In the 1900 census George was living with his brother Columbus and their brother Jim and his family nearby. By that year Robert had returned to their home town of Elmo, Texas. About 1901 George married the widow Cherokee Watts McNulty of nearby Creek Nation and they had a daughter, Bessie Adella Mackey on August 23, 1902. George died on Feb. 1, 1904 and is buried at the Indian Territory Cemetery in Checotah.
I have cousins who still live and own land in this area. Robert later moved from Texas to western Oklahoma, in Beckham county. First to Texola and then to Sayre where he died in 1927. He was buried in Texola. Jim died in 1941 and is buried in Tripplett Cemetery in McIntosh County. Columbus died in 1957 and is buried in Brooken Cemetery in Haskell County.
Though George had been married at least once before he was married to Cherokee, he apparently had no children. Therefore, Della and her own off-spring are his only descendants. I would appreciate acquiring any info and pictures that are available of them. They are my "lost" cousins.
I have been in touch with Wannah's niece by her brother John, Nova, but she knew nothing of what became of Della or her family. We know from the public record that Della married Robert Franklin Clark in 1920 in McIntosh County, OK. In the 1930 census in McIntosh County we see them with three children: Louise, Georgia and James. The girls had been born in OK, James in Illinois.
According to the California death index, Robert died in Ventura County, CA on March 15, 1984. His mother's maiden name was Henshaw and he was born in the State of Tennessee on July 14, 1901. According to that same index, Della was born on August 23, 1902 in Oklahoma and died on March 25, 1989 in Ventura County, CA. Her mother's maiden name was Watts and her father's last name was Mackey.
I do not know if Della had more children after the 1930 census, but I suspect that she had at least one. In the California Death Index is a Jackie Lee Clark, male, who was born on June 20, 1932 in Oklahoma. His mother's maiden name was Mackey. He died on June 7, 1982.
