Galveston Daily News Galveston, Texas Friday, August 8, 1890 or 1891 Numerous Arrests for the Murder of a Peddler Paris, Texas, Aug. 7 On Tuesday evening deputy marshal LITTLE BROWN, and ED CARTER arrested CAESAR FRANKLIN, ROBERT FRANKLIN, PERRY FRANKLIN, HANTLY FRANKLIN, ROASEY FRANKLIN, SARAH FRANKLIN, H. WILLIAMS and wife, GEORGE SUTTLERS, HENRY TAYLOR, and CAESAR JAMES, all negroes, about 50 miles northwest of Ardmore in the Chickasaw Nation, on a charge of murdering a peddler named BRUCE on the Wild Horse Creek, where they lived. Several months ago the warrant for their arrest was sworn out by one J. D. CARTER. The officers reached Ardmore with the prisoners late last night. This is the second time some of the parties have been arrested but they were released because of the insufficiency of the evidence. Last week J. D. CARTER found the body of a man in a cave in the Arbuckle Mountains, about four miles from where the parties, who are under arrest, live. Wagon tracks were found leading from the cave to their houses. The body was too badly decomposed for identification. It is believed the body was placed in the cave in order that it might be found as the place is visited frequently. A rope was tied around it and laid across the bench that leads to the entrance. Notify Administrator about this message?
