There is a Poarch Cemetery south of Elk City. Per Oklahoma Place Names, Poarch, in SE Beckham County, 3 miles east of Carter. A post office from July 15 1899 to Dec 31, 1911. No longer in existance, it was named for James H. Poarch, first postmaster.
Elk City is a community of 10,00 + people along I-40 in NE Beckham County. Elk City, (Busch) was founded in 1901 as part of Roger Mills County, Oklahoma Territory. Elk City became part of Beckham County at statehood in 1907. Beckham county was made up of parts of Roger Mills and Greer counties.
Guymon is in the Oklahoma Panhandle which was also part of Oklahoma Territory. Indian Territory was made up of the eastern half of present Oklahoma.
