I know that you wrote this awhile ago and may already have this info. but just in case you didn't I looked it up for you. So far I can't find Robert in 1900 but I'm still looking.

This family lived about 4 or five doors down from James H. Elrod…

There were a lot of "Ford's" in the 1900 Grayson county TX census but your Robert didn't seem to be there.
