"MARY ELLEN JONES MARINE
Dec. 31, 1913 - June 22, 2005
Mary Ellen Jones Marine, 91, lifelong resident of Duncan, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in Pauls Valley.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Duncan City Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive frends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary was born December 31, 1913, in Duncan, the eldest of three children. Her parents were Clyde W. and Ola Mae McGarr Jones. She attended Gatlin School and as an honor student, graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1932.
On December 24, 1931, before graduation, she married her sweetheart, Floyd 'Buster' Marine of Bradley. They celebrated 53 years together before Buster's passing in December 1984.
Mary had attended Immanuel Baptist Church since the early 1940's, when the floors consisted only of dirt. Becoming a Christian and an active member in 1949, she was a great witness to her husband and children and staunch in her beliefs. She continued in her witness until her health would no longer allow her attendance. She participated in the Ruth Sunday School Class at Immanuel. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed camping and fishing.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Marine Turner and son-in-law, Wes, of Duncan, and Mary Jo Hand and son-in-law, Ronald, of Mandeville, Louisianna; four grandchildren, Russel Turner and wife, Vicki, and Robby Turner, all of Baton Rouge, Louisianna, Cristy Turner Sullivan of Mandeville, Louisianna, and Kristian Leichtenberg and wife, Monica, of Delaware, Ohio; seven great grandchildren; Brandon , Austyn and Reece Sulican of Mandeville, Taylor and Weston turn and Victoria 'Tori', all of Baton Rouge, and Madeline Leichtenberg of Delaware; a sister, Frances Mae Slaon of Duncan; and a niece, Nancy Sloan of Duncan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ola Jones, and her only brother, Howard Jones.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to New Hope Baptist Church West or Immanuel Baptist Church.
