I have just inherited an old scrapbook that was compiled by my grandmother, Gaynal Faye Ramage Sime between 1898-1926. Part of it covers her girlhood years, from 1898-1911, when she lived in and around Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. In the 1910 census, she and her family are living in Lone Star Township, Wagoner County. An entry in the scrapbook says that "Once upon a time I lived in Oklahoma, and I had a lot of cousins and second cousins. About a hundred fifty of them. And I liked playing with some of them, and I still like looking at these pictures of them." And then there are dozens of photos taken between 1880 and 1911, most labeled with something frustrating like "Me and my two favorite cousins." Once in awhile there is a name. Her paternal grandparents were Calvin and Lila Marie (Cobler) Ramage. They had at least three children: James Ira, Clarence, and Cleo (female). There are photos of Calvin and Lila and the children when they were small, a wedding portrait of James Ira and his bride Martha Elizabeth Sullivan, and class pictures in front of an old one room schoolhouse labeled "Evans School." There are a few names: Aunt Minnie Reid, Aunt Lula and Uncle Roy, Cousin Mabel, Cousin May Cobler, Cousin Albert.
I would love to hear from anyone who recognizes these names or who knows anything about the Ramage/Cobler families in this area at the turn of the 20th century. Thanks!
