Nellie Luella Callaway, daughter of the late John Arnold and Minnie Gertrude (Gorman) Callaway, was born March 28, 1911, at her parents home southwest of Waynoka, in Woods County, Oklahoma, and passed away at Beadles Nursing Home in Alva, Oklahoma, on August 5, 1998, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 7 days.
Nellie attended the Heman School District Number 77, and graduated from Waynoka High School. After her graduation she obtained a teaching certificate at Northwestern Normal School, and taught at several rural schools in the area for several years. She later obtained employment as a librarian in Washington, D. C., with the U. S. Government. Upon her retirement, she returned to Alva to be near relatives and friends.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alva and became a member of the worked diligently for the Woods County Genealogical Society.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; one sister; one half brother, two half sisters, and three step sisters.
Nellis is survived by two brothers, Fred Callaway and his wife, Jean, of Cherokee, Arnold Callaway and his wife, Dorothy, of Brownwood, Texas, and one sister, Enid Callaway Reynolds of Oklahoma City; one sister in law, Naomi Callaway; and fifteen nieces and eight nephews whom she called her own.
