Raymond T. "Red" O'Malley, 88, of Greeley St., died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene E. (Erb) O'Malley, with whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this June; two sons: Thomas V. O'Malley of Clinton, and Donald R. O'Malley and his wife, Leah of Townsend; two daughters: Kathleen A. Hayes and her husband, Peter of Ashburnham, and Carol S. Smith and her husband, Robert of Centerville, OH; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, David J. O'Malley, who died in 2001. Two brothers, James & John, and four sisters, Marguerite, Irene, Catherine & Mary, also predeceased him.
Raymond was born and raised in Clinton, the son of John W. and Catherine (Ferguson) O'Malley and was a life-long resident. He was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1940 where he was a member of the Midland League Championship football team. Raymond was a proud member of the US Marine Corps and a Veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific.
For more than 40 years, he worked as a Truck Driver for Clinton Trucking, and later, Trans Con from where he retired in 1983.
Raymond was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the Clinton Lodge of Elks.
He enjoyed politics and music. Time spent in the company of his loving family was his greatest joy.
Raymond's funeral will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 with a brief service at 10:00 a.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., open to relatives and friends. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
