Hello Brien:
Many thanks for your response. And I did see your excellant O'Malley site. Beautiful work.

My crowd arrived in NYC in Black '47 and moved north to Orange Co NY and later moved to Muscatine Co IA about 1852.

My Annie was the youngest child of Austin and Mary O`MELIA. Austin's brother, Michael, followed in 1853.

One of Annie`s sisters, Margaret, married Frank CAIN who worked for the railroad. They moved to Gutherie Co IA and later to Cass Co IA.

The O'MALLEY/CANE stood out and it prompted a query. Evidently your folks were able to read and write English and my bunch were not. Thus the multiple spelliings of the surname until the children went out on their own.<G>

So I am back to square one with my research on Annie.
