His death marked the close of a long fight of five years against the ravages of miners consumption, which during that time period had prevented him from mining except intermittently. When it was announced yesterday morning that he had died, men could be heard telling each other of his death all over the city. " A good old friend had gone out." His long residence here since 1879 had made him acquainted with practically every man in the city. Among the miners there was probably not a man who did not know him. His health had been steadily declining for, the past five years but his death came as a decided shock to his family and friends, for none of them thought that the end was so near. There survives him his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Cahill-O'Malia a large family of six children, four grandchildren four sisters and four brothers. One of the daughters Miss Julia O'Malia and one son Peter O'Malia who is a fireman on the Midland reside in Leadville. The other sons are Roger O'Malia Jr. of Denver and Wm. O'Malia living in Michigan. The daughters Mrs. J. M. O'Rourke of Victor and Mrs. E.J. Carson of Grand Rapids Mich. Mrs. Carson will start westward today and is expected to reach Leadville Tuesday Mrs. O'Rourke is already here and Roger O'Malia Jr. will arrive from Denver shortly. Funeral plans will The four sisters and four brothers of Mr. O'Malia all live in Wisconsin, except Michael O'Malia, who is the chief of police of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Of the four grandchildren Roger and John are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. John M. O'Rourke of Victor and Miss Olive and Roger O'Malia III are the children of Mr. and Mrs E. J. Carson of Grand Rapids Mich. Roger O'Malia was born in Syracuse N. Y. Dec. 2, 1851: While he was still young he removed to Michigan settling in Ishpeming. There he worked at the grocery trade for a time and also followed railroading. In 1873 he married Miss Elizabeth Cahill. Then in 1879 he made the long journey westward to Leadville alone. Leaving his wife and two children in Michigan. Tie that an mining in the district here and two years later sent for his family to join him. Ever since that first year of 79 he has been continuously in this city, working at nearly all the principle mines in the district. The last mine at which he had been employed, before his sickness forced his retirement, was the Iron-Silver. Until a few years ago he had been a member of the Miners union and was (illegible sentence part) at the time of his passing. Not closely related, but families connected.
