Hi Dan,
My GGGreat-Grandfather Thomas William SMIDDY, b. 1772, Ballycrenane, Ballymacoda, d. 1866, Ballycrenane, Ballymacoda was married to Catherine (Kate) NEAL/O’NEILL, c1792, b. 1758.
I received this message today from Una advising me that Catherine may have been a relative of Thomas O’Neill “An Fear Uasal Ó Thir Eoghain” (The Gentleman of Tyrone –a title not given lightly, suggesting a man of some importance), who settled in Knockadoon (Warren), Ballymacoda, County Cork, Ireland where he leased land and built a house in 1702.
Married Honor and they had 2 sons.
Hi Ann,
I found this on the O'Neills ancestry.
1i) Thomas O’Neill “An Fear Uasal Ó Thir Eoghain” (The Gentleman of Tyrone –a title not given lightly, suggesting a man of some importance), settled in Knockadoon (Warren), Ballymacoda, County Cork, Ireland where he leased land and built a house in 1702.
Married Honor and they had 2 sons:
- Daniel (see No. 2i below)
- John (see No. 2ii below - following after the lineage of 2i on page 41)
1ii) Philip O’Neill, brother of Thomas above, leased land and built a house in Ballydaniel in 1704
from Thomas O’Neill (No.1i from above)
2ii) John, born 1714 was a farmer in Knockadoon (Warren) married, and died 10 March 1763 at age 49. He is buried in “the Hill” cemetery Ballymacoda (headstone No. 73)
He had 4 children:
3i) John Jr., was in possession of lands in Knockadoon in 1793
- Thomas born c.1771 died 15 April 1807 at age 36 buried in Knockadoon in “the Hill”
- Edmond born c. 1776 died 10 October 1805 at age 29 buried in Knockadoon in “the Hill”
3ii) Catherine married Mr. Smiddy - ? Thomas William SMIDDY
3iii) Edmond (see below)
3iv) Philip Jr. “ of Aghavine”
and possibly 3v) Daniel “ of Aghavine”
Does it ring any bells with you?
Regards,
Ann
