"George Twamley (Sr.) was born 1825 in Wicklow, Ireland. Came with brothers and a sister to New York and found work with the Vanderbilts."
George bought 200 acres in Ashfield Twp. Huron County, Ontario after coming to view the land. We know that in the winter he cut down the trees, built a log home and worked in New York in summers. On his way back and forth he visited with the Dixons, as Mary Dixon was a cousin.
In Jan. 2 1854, George Twamley, b. Wicklow 1825, married Elizabeth Dixon and came to their homestead in Ashfield to live. They had 9 children: Elizabeth Twamley, their second child, married Wm. George Sherwood on Jan. 2, 1883. Their daughter, Annie Sherwood, married Adam Johnstone." Died at age 77."
"In about 1818, Mary Twamley [cousin to George Twamley Sr.] married William Dixon in Dublin, Ireland. They sailed for New York, USA. They lived in the state of New York for about 12 years."
