Judy, Thanks so much for providing so much information. I had a some of this already, but not all. I am grateful for your time and effort.
Do you know if there are any current descendents of these families in Oregon...possibly Portland, Clackamas County, etc. Do you know if anyone has any photos of the family? I understand that the ROBBINS brothers who married the THOMPSON sisters were in the mercantile business in Molalla.
Robert Thompson's sister, Elizabeth, and her husband John Melanthon DRAKE accompanied Robert and Rachel THOMPSON on the 1852 wagon train. The Drake's grandson, June D. DRAKE, was a prominent photographer whose photographs of the Silver Falls area were instrumental in convincing the state legislature to create Silver Falls State Park.
You may be interested to know that Charles and Jenny Thompson died and are buried in Medford. In the same plot is Jenny's sister Alice. She taught in Grants Pass, but lived with Charles and Jenny in Medford. Charles and Jenny's son was alive and living in Los Angeles in 1937 when Charles died. I've not been able to trace him otherwise.
Interesting side note about Abija (aka Bijah, Abijah) PITNEY who lived with Robert and Rachel Thompson in Marquam in 1860. He was the son of Cyrus PITNEY and Caroline McCLAIN who immigrated to Oregon in 1847 when Abija was 11 mos old (Laurie Undis at laurieundis@hotmail.com). His mother died in 1852 which left his father alone with six children under the age of 12. Cyrus remarried, a woman named Martha, in 1854 and promptly died in 1855. I was able, with the help of Laurie Undis, to trace Abijah, but not his sisters. Laurie and I speculated that the new Mrs PITNEY must have asked for help from neighbors who must have taken the orphaned children which is why Abijah ended up with the Thompsons in 1860.
In 1870, Abijah was a farm worker in Wasco County. He never married and later died of an illness in Hawaii. Even though he's not a family member, it makes for an interesting story.
