Elias Briggs of Springfield, Oregon

I am looking for information on the burial of Elias M. Briggs who was the founder of Springfield, Oregon. I have been told by a very good source that he died in the Oregon State Hospital in Salem Oregon, 1896. He was buried in the cemetery next to the hospital and then no one knows if he was claimed by a family member when the cemetery ceased to exist or if he was cremated and is still in a building stored at the hospital.
I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to obtain this information. His father, Isaac and his mother, Elizabeth are buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
I thank you in advance for any help. I live in Iowa and can't make the trip right now to try to figure this out.
