Hi Ronald, I didn't find anything on Ellen's death in Missouri. However, I did find an 1850 Washington County, Oregon Territory Census which I believe shows Catharine and Margaret. Alvin F. Smith, head household, b. Conn, 48 yrs old, farmer; Abigail Smith, b. NY, 57; Eliza Brown, b. MO, 14; Edwd Gale, b. Ft. Hall, 12; Ellen Gale, b. Ft. Hall, 13; Margt Gale, b. OR Terr, 7; Susan Gale, b. OR Terr., 7; Catharine Owens, b MO, 6; and Margt Owens, b. MO, 9. I looked for both girls in other Censuses and didn't find them in Oregon. However, they may have married or died. The Oregon records you need are very old and I'm not sure where they reside. You could contact the Genealogical Society of Washington County Oregon, www.gswco.org/home.html. They might be able to answer that question. Sometimes early records are kept in the local court house; Washington County Circuit Court, 503-846-8888, www.ojd.state.or.us/wsh/default.htm . Sometimes they are at the Oregon State Archives, http://arccweb.sos.state.or.us/ . Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, www.raogk.org, choose Oregon, choose Washington, has a volunteer for Washington County who might be able to help you too. I think I'd try him first. He has experience looking up Washington County records. Successful Searching! Notify Administrator about this message?
