Re: Amanda, The 1880 Census for LaPorte City, Black Hawk Co, IA James Kennicott, age 53, New York Prudence, 45, Pennsylvania Hattie, 21, Michigan Amanda 17, born Michigan Eunice 16, Michigan Voncinia ? 12, Iowa Rena 10, Iowa --The 1900 census shows Amanda's father born Michigan, mother Pennsylvania --This family "could" be of Amanda, but I did not prove it by any other record. The 1920 Census for Kenai, Alaska, Territory: Fred Crocker, age 65, widower, born in New York to both parents born in New York, farmer. --This "appears" to be your Fred. You indicated in other postings that your Fred was in Alaska, this "could" be but not enough criteria for at least me. The 1930 Census for Wasilla, Alaska Territory Frederick M Crocker, 75, born in New York, Rancher, Father-in-law Sharon D Fleckenstein, age 30, born in California to father born in Iowa, mother in California. Maxine, age 22, born in Minnesota to father born in New York, mother in Iowa. --This Maxine would have been born 1907/1908 in Minnesota. The mother born in Iowa is not a real problem, Amanda LIVED in Iowa with her parents, but perhaps they didn't know she was born in Michigan... OR there was another wife after Amanda for Fred. ---I found one family tree, unknown person owning it. It showed Sharon D. Fleckenstein born 2 January 1899, died April 1959, marriage to a Florence Edlund, born estimated 1896-1914. They were married estimated 1916-1946 in Alaska. They had two "living" descendents. --I did check for Fleckenstein living in Alaska. I found a Lydia, but born 1920, to soon for "Maxine", but possibly a first wife? ---The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has one volunteer in the Kenai Peninsula, Carolee Chapman. She does still photo's of tombstones. BUT, she might have knowledge of resources in that area. ---I spent some time in the Kenai Peninsula (business related). I'd be glad to go up there and search for you........But, you'd pay expenses. No...didn't think so. Something interesting? In the Minnesota Birth Certificate Index http://people.mnhs.org/bci/search.cfm?bhcp=1 Zephra Clea Crocker born 21 July 1907 in Pine County, Minnesota. The mothers maiden name was Kennicott. --Could this person be the "Clay" that you mentioned? OR is this Maxine ? The MN Death Certificates http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm?bhcp=1 I found nothing matching criteria of search. -------Frankie------------ I looked for ANY "Fran*", where "*" is a wildcard. The 1910 Census for Minnesota had 21 first names beginning with "Fran", there was only one that was not a son or daughter or had another eliminator. This person had the parents born in the right states: The 1910 Census for Wahnena, Cass County, MN George E. Godfrey, age 45, born Wisconsin Celia M 46, Minnesota, mother of 3, 2 living Charles H, son, 21 * Frankie B. daughter-in-law, 20, born Minnesota to father born in New York, mother in Michigan, married 1 year, mother of 1 Florence M. Grand-daughter, age 8/12 -census enumerated April 22nd, so Florence born about August 1909. ---The Minnesota Birth Certificates show a Florence M. Godfrey born 22 August 1909, mothers maiden name "Slater". The 1920 census showed additional children, "Frank" was son of mother having maiden name of "Slater" also. --The 1930 Census showed "Francis B.", with both parents born in Minnesota. ---The Frances Belle Godfrey is found in the Fairview Cemetery, Remer, Cass Co: http://ftp.rootsweb.ancestry.com/pub/usgenweb/mn/cass/cemeteries/fairvie1.txt She was born June 18, 1889, died Dec 12, 1972. ---YOUR Frankie, per the 1900 Census was born in August 1889. So, while this Frankie had a possibility, I think I have thoroughly eliminated her. The only way this person "could" be the right one, is an error on where she was born. Her mother remarried shortly after 1906, 1906 to a Slater; AND, the month of birth in the 1900 Census was wrong. BUT, keep this research to eliminate this one in the future. I used the above search system for ANY Fran*, born plus/minus 2 years of 1890 across the USA... I couldn't find her. I am "assuming" Frankie might have been nickname for Frances, or Florence, but who knows. I looked for ANYONE born plus/minus 2 years of 1890 with father born in New York, mother in Michigan, without success. Now, your leads go to Alaska, you have posted on GenForum in Alaska. I would suggest you post on Rootsweb message boards, or mailing lists: The message board is similar to this one, mailing lists-you receive and send via email: Message Boards: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alaska/mb.ashx Mailing Lists: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/usa/AK/ Interesting family, as to why they just seemed to have disappeared. But, I think you might be able to blame Alaska. Ron Bestrom Notify Administrator about this message?
