Hi Lucinda, the du Prael who published the dissertation might have been an out-of-area or out-of-state student attending the Univ. of Oregon. Also the most recent Census that is viewable by the public was taken in 1930 which might be before the dissertation was issued.

The best approach with genealogy is to work from the most recent info and then backwards. If you know everything about your parents, then you start working on your grandparents and work your way back in time. Successful Searching!
