HI Nita-
I am looking back on this and thought I could elaborate some for posterity.Luther Orcutt was the older brother of Sabrina Orcutt Modrell. He was born in New York to Unknown Orcutt and Lydia White Orcutt. (Lydia was born to John White of CT, then NY).In 1818 the extended WHITE family and this small ORCUTT family came to Gibson County, Indiana where Sabrina was born. His mother was listed in the 1820 Gibson County census as Liddy Orket. She was listed as living alone with 3 children in that census.I think there is also another sister, but I don't know her name.Lydia White Orcutt later married the town doctor, Mitchell Minnis. They all moved to Arkansas for a time before the Civil War but all returned to Illinois (Clay county area) during/after the Civil War period.Luther Orcutt's father is a still a mystery but I believe he was born in NY around 1795.He probably married Lydia White around 1810 in New York but was dead or gone by 1820.There is also a family story that Sabrina claimed to be the "first cousin" of Abraham Lincoln.First cousin meant something different in the 1800's, but I am sure there is a connection some how.Another Orcutt researcher I found on line, Joel Orcutt, had the same family story in his line (and I am not even sure how we are related YET).The obituary for his Orcutt ancestor in the early 1900's even referenced the cousin connection!Anyway, I just want to get this information out there. If anyone ever has any luck with Sabrina and Luther's paternity, please let me know! Thanks!
