Circa 1860s photo of Chester Orcutt

I purchased the subject undated studio portrait of a young man taken by G. W. Manly, Akron, OH. It was purchased along with other related Orcutt photos. It is identified on the back of the mount in period handwriting:

"Chester Orcutt"

I found Chester Orcutt listed in the 1850, 1870, and 1880 Census data for Copley Township, Summit Co., OH. A farmer, Chester was born about 1839 in OH, the son of a farmer, Chester Orcutt, born 28 Aug 1786 in Egremont, Berkshire Co., MA; and Jerusha (maiden name unknown), born about 1804 in MA. By the time of the 1880 Census Chester was widowed (I did not learn his wife's name) and living with his mother and daughter, Almira E. Orcutt, born about 1877 in OH.
