OREAR - KELLY - DAVIS in MS AL TN 1800s
I recently found that my grandmother, Carrie KELLY, b. 4 Jan 1873 in Center, Attala CCounty, MS, was the daughter of a William D. KELLY Sr., b. bet. 1819 - 1820 in TN, and who married a Caroline "Ann" DAVIS, b. abt. 1853 in MS, according to my grandmother Carrie's death certificate.
I just located the family in the Attala CCounty MS 1880 Census, and here they are:
KELLY, William D.(head) age 60 born TN, father born TN, mother born KY.
KELLY, Ann (wife) age 27 born MS
KELLY, Willie (son) age 15 born MS
KELLY, Nannie (dau) age 13, born MS
KELLY, Lucy (dau) age 10, born MS
KELLY, Carrie (dau) age 7, born MS
KELLY, May (dau) age 2, born MS
KELLY, Lewis (son) several mos old, possibly dead
at time of 29 Jun 1880 Census (name crossed off
list and disclaimer at end of enumeration states that
20 dead people would be removed from listings).
O'RAIR, Sareta (aunt) age 81, born GA, father
born in Ireland, mother born SC.
Just guessing, but I bet that Caroline "Ann" DAVIS
might be William D. KELLY's second wife; I doubt
she gave birth to William Jr. when she was 12 and
Nannie when she was 14.
On the very next Census page is listed Benjamin F.
KELLY, age 56, born TN, parents born SC, and
his wife Kezziah, age 44, and their children.
Benjamin Franklin KELLY was the son of
William Durham KELLY, whose family
married into the O'REAR family.
(I have discovered this just by surfing around this
morning on RootsWeb, etc.)
I find it strange that William Durham KELLY is
not shown anywhere as having a son named after him.
Based on the placement on the Census and his
having a O'Rair (O'REAR?) aunt living in his household,
his age at the time of the Census (four years older than
Benjamin Franklin KELLY), I think that my William D.
KELLY must somehow be related to the KELLYs and
O'REARs on whom there seems to be sizeable information.
I also find it curious that Benjamin Franklin KELLY married
a Charity Kisiah (Kezziah) DAVIS, same last name as my
great grandmother, Caroline DAVIS, who married
my ggrandfather, William D. KELLY.
Can you help me?I just found this all out today. And it
was only a few weeks ago, when I got my grandmother
Carrie's death certificate that I found out the names of her
parents.
Anyone have any info on who this Sareta O'RAIR / O'REAR might be?
