Alexander & Christiana Orth in Philadelphia
I am seeking information about my greatgreatgrandfather, Alexander Orth, and his wife, Christiana.
Alexander was born in Wissembourg on 13 Mar 1798 and emigrated to the United States, sailing from Amsterdam on the ship “Christopher Gore” and arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 06 Sept 1817.He became a naturalized citizen on 23 Oct 1832.He was a baker by trade, was naturalized in 1832, and lived and died in Philadelphia on 07 Nov 1837.He was accompanied on the “Christopher Gore” by August Orth, relationship, if any, unknown.
He was married to Christiana, maiden name unknown, who was born in between Nov 1795 and Nov1796 in Germany, exact place unknown. She was also a baker, had seven children (Sophia, John F., Philip, Henry W., Caroline, Louisa and Samuel [my greatgrandfather]) from about 1818 to 1837 and died in Philadelphia on 12 Nov 1883.Presumably she and Alexander were married before they arrived in the US.Christiana did not accompany Alexander on the “Christopher Gore,” however. She was illiterate, signing an administrative document in 1838 with an “X” in lieu of her name.
I would like to know Alexander’s parents’ names and other information about them, information about any of his siblings, Christiana’s maiden name, city/town of origin, parents’ names, date/place of her wedding to Alexander, and any other information about this family.
