Edmund Orton, born ca. 1832, d. 1879, Staffordshire
Hi all,
I posted to this forum some years ago about Edmund Orton, but the information I received then was about his descendents, and was lifted bodily from an article I wrote about Arthur David Orton (Edmund's son) for one of the early Orton FHS journals! (nice to know that someone actually read it...)
I am still hunting for Edmund's birth/baptism record and for any siblings. His death certificate (he died on September 14, 1879) says that he died of apoplexy aged 47, which means he must have been born in 1832 - I guess in Tamworth. On his marriage certificate (he married Adelaide Garrington in 1854), his father is listed as John Horton, a gardener. My grandmother, Irene Kathleen (née) Orton, told me that John was assistant head gardener to Sir Robert Peel, but I have not (yet) been able to substantiate this story.
Can anybody identify with any of this?
Heather :-)
