During the Irish Famine 1845-1850, various religious groups, notably the Quakers, set up soup kitchens. In addition to soup, you were subjected to "friendly persusasion." Irish who legitimately, or feigned converted to a protestant sect were called "soupers." In general the "soupers" were shunned by their fellow Irish. Notify Administrator about this message?
