Utt

There is a story I've alway heard told in my family. It is that the Ott family name(some of us at least) was originally Utt instead of Ott. But it was pronounced the same. The reason I'm told is because the Utts lived in the north during the beginnings of the Civil War. Some members of the Utts moved south and thus changed their name to Ott. Apparently it was changed to keep people from finding them or something. That's what I've always heard. And the town where my grandparents are from was a big battle area in the war, the town of New Market. So as to whether this is true or not, I don't know. Anyone know? It's been something that is argued in my family for some years now.
