Suggest you read "The Mel Ott Story," a biography published shortly after his death. I am related to the Otts of Louisiana through my mother. Iverson W. Ott was my great-grandfather. His father was Jacob Ott, b. 1822 in Louisiana, supposedly a judge. Family folklore had it that Mel Ott was related, but I have only recently become interested in family history. Mel's obit in the New Orleans papers shows an incorrect burial site, Metairie Cemetary. They have no record of his interment there. I do plan to continue researching the Ott line, and Mel Ott is on my list. Will be happy to share what I find, if you are interested.
