see my posting to the geneology forum--my own great grandfather Abraham Ott who was raised in New Haven (although born in PA) was the youngest of many brothers all (most?) of whom apparently served in the 6th Mich. Volunteer Cavalry. A unit roster should be available in any decent MI library, which should give you some names to work with. Let me know if you find anything.
