Dan:

You most likely have the census records from 1850 through 1900 for Franklin, and his father Josiah S. Adams. The LDS records indicate Josiah's father was, James Adams, b 30 Oct 1770 Chester Co. PA, m abt 1795 Mifflin Co, to Rachel Black b 1772 PA., 10 children of which Josiah was the last.
The next generation back was also a James Adams b Oct 30 1734 West Fallowfield Chester Co,died 1824 Chester Co. who married Isabella Weldon (b 22 sep 1736 - 1825). James was the son of Joseph Adams b 13 Sep 1705 PA, d 1801, married abt 1730 Chester Co, to Lydia Weldon (1710-1759).

This will no doubt not answer your questions, but perhaps it might add something to the mix.
