The following my help provide some clues:
Titusville Herald, March 14, 1907
Pittsburg March 13-Swept with terrific force by the swollen current against the pier at lock No. 3, the towboat Cruiser, owned, by the Monongahela River Consolidated Coal and Coke company, “ was wrecked and sunk, sending tow of her crew to death. Two others were rescued a mile below the scene of the accident after they had been in the water an hour.
Three of the crew clinging to the bow of the submerged boat were saved after a hard fight with heavy ice.
The Cruiser, with a crew of thirteen men in command of Captain H Sweeney, left here with a tow of twelve barges of coal in a dense fog earlier today. A mishap, owing to high water narrowly missed at the Davis Island dam, the towboat almost striking the pier while going through the lick, it being next to impossible to see the lights of the lock on account of thick fog. Captain Sweeney decided it would be hazardous to go further in the fog tide up at the dam.
When daylight came the Cruiser left the dam and immediately ten barges of coal were swept down stream by the rising water. These were picked up about noon by the towboat Valiant near Sewickley.
Tonight just after the crew had eaten supper the Cruiser started fro lock No. 3 at Glen Osborne, twenty miles west of here. Before the lock could be reached, however, the boat was carried by the swift running current and dashed against the pier, a large hole was knocked in the boat’s side and she began to sink. Yawls were cut loose and the crew started for shore. The river was running heavy with ice and one of the yawls was overturned, drowning two occupants. The drowned were foreigners and their names are unknown.
