You never know, but death certificates and obituaries are usually the best ways of finding information on a person. Either one may just say Ireland or they could give more specific information. Both will probably give you the parents' names which would definitely help track him down especially if his parents came over too. As a note of caution not all obituaries and death certificates give this information. Much of it has to do with how much the informant knew. In other words the information is only as good as the informant which was usually a close family member.

I can't think of a better source to try except maybe church records and they are not always easy to track down. Census records will generally only tell you what state or country the person or the parents were from. Some give the year they came over.
