I am researching emigration from Bertrange (Bartringen), Luxembourg to the United States.
Nicholas ANDRING, born in Bertrange (Bartringen), Luxembourg, 9 January 1870, son of Peter Andring (born Bertrange 1830) and Anna Even (born Bertrange 1829) married 22 June 1898 in Bettembourg, Luxembourg, Mary STOLTZ , born 7 May 1878 in Huncherange (Hüncheringen), daughter of John Stoltz and Josephine Bauer).
On the July 9 1898 he and his wife left on the ship Friesland from Antwerp, arriving in NY July 23. With them was also John Andring (his brother), 25 years, and his wife Josephine, 20 years.
The passengers manifest indicates Vandergrift, Westmoreland Co., PA as their destination. Their last residence is indicated as Vandergrift for John and Bertrange for his wife Josephine; Huncherange for both Nicholas and Mary.
It looks like John and Nicholas resided already in the States before and returned to Luxembourg to get married. In fact the marriage record of Nicholas Andring and Mary Stoltz points out that the father Peter Andring was residing in Apollo, Armstrong Co., PA and that his mother Anna Even died in Bertrange in 1892. A first emigration must have occurred between 1892 and 1898.
Nicholas Andring was active in Luxembourg social life. In 1906 he was Marshall of Section 19 Vandergrift of the Luxembourg Brotherhood of America.
Finally on March 25 1902 a Joseph Andring, aged 19 years, born in Bertrange, lands in NY on ship Friesland. According to the passenger manifest he is heading to Vandergrift to join his uncle Nicholas Andring.
Any information on the future fate Peter, Nicholas, John and Joseph Andring will be most welcome.
The mayor of the Borough of Apollo is an Andring. Is he a descendant?
