I am seeking contact with anyone researching a William and Rachel (Adams???) Sansom, who resided in Armstrong County from at least 1813 until possibly 1828. William had land in either Allegheny or Plum Creek (a/k/a Plumcreek) Township, somewhere near Crooked Creek, in the part that would later become Burrell Township. I have found the following references. http://books.google.com/books?id=x0gVAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA187&lpg=PA187&dq=Sansom+Armstrong-county+Pennsylvania&source=bl&ots=goUvU9m_H9&sig=J0bt8aOe9ORRIu3he80aFALQuqs&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result#PPA187,M1 Armstrong County, Pennsylvania By J.H. Beers & Co Page 194, Chapter XXIII. Plum Creek Township: "Some of the original landowners and settlers within the old boundaries of the township were: . . . . William Sansom . . . . . " http://www.pa-roots.com/armstrong/smithproject/history/chap16.html Chapter 16, Burrell "Returning to the original tracts: . . . . Joseph Sansom, 401½ acres; . . . . . From the ancient county map and descriptions in some old deeds there appears to have been a vacant tract of considerable extent skirting Crooked creek from its first large bend above the mouth of Cherry run and the Malcolm Campbell tract, and that runs up to the southern boundary of the Joseph and William Sansom tracts, and adjoins the northern, southeastern and eastern boundaries of the Joseph Shoemaker tract." http://www.usgwarchives.org/maps/pa/county/armstr/usgs/burrell.jpg map showing Crooked Creek and Cherry branch http://www.pa-roots.com/armstrong/smithproject/history/chap10a.html Chapter 10, Kiskiminetas, Part 1 "The ancient map of this county indicates that seventy-five tracts of land were originally surveyed to various persons as follows: . . . . John Scotton, 319 1/2 acres, seated by William Sansom; . . . . " The Sansoms probably came to Armstrong from Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where I believe they were married about 1803. They had several children, including Julia Ann, b. March 1813 in Armstrong. Because both William and Rachel died in the Spring of 1828, I wonder if there wasn't some type of epidemic in Armstrong at that time??
