Can confirm Mary (SR), mother of your Mary Agnes and also Mary (SR)'s mother-in-law, paternal grandmother of your Mary Agnes.
Research last evening leads to the border of Canada, namely Erie, Erie County, PA. The names/ages found are similar to those in your reply... your Mary A and her sister Margaret.
Several affirmative clues are provided in the June 1880 PA Census_ Erie County_ Erie_Dist 146 which shows H/H James Duffey 29 born in Canada, his wife Mary 40 and their daughter Elizabeth Duffey 5.
The wife Mary (SR) is listed as born in Ireland (her father born in Ireland and her mother born in England). Mary (SR) also has 5 older children from a previous marriage. Older children listed are: Catherine Hannihan 23, Mary Hannihan 21, Margaret Hannihan 19, Timothy Hannihan 16 and Anna Hannihan 13. All members of this listing were born in Canada with the exception of Mary (SR). This record also states that the father of the older children was born in Ireland.
The possibility of "Aunt Meg" being Margaret above misses the provided birthyear and birthplace in the 1880 Census but I strongly believe consideration should still be given. The dates are accurate for Mary A. and all names are relative.
Another 1900 record provides detail for Mary (SR)'s mother. Gross spelling error in the record lists her as Cathran Henahan. Catherine is living with her married granddaughter Maggie Keefer in Allegheny Twp, Westmoreland County. This record states that "Maggie" was born March 1865. Oldest daughter of Mary (SR) was named Catherine as well. This particular record states that Catherine (SR) is widowed, (78) born January 1822 in Ireland, as were both of her parents.
Married for 17 years in this record, John K Keefer is the named spouse of "Maggie" and listed with them are their 4 children: William H (14) b. June 1885, Lulla G (11) b. January 1889, Earl V (9) b. Aug 1891, and Clifton A (7) b. Dec 1892. An obvious mistake for William H's birthyear appears in this record_ provided as 1875 it can be confirmed as 1885 which correctly aligns with his age of 14 years. It is very doubtful that Maggie gave birth at 10 years of age; equally unlikely is it that her husband fathered a child at 12 years of age.
I live about 50 miles from your research area in Armstrong County and about 35 miles from Greensburg. Later in the Spring we will endeavor to find public records you may need. In the meantime, shall we continue to sort through the facts and other information to develop a clearer picture of the originating lineage? Catherine (SR) may be available in other records of her descendants.
This kind of "tidbit" information has already developed two earlier generation in your family and may lead to more branches_ at the very least it will provide more detailed information about those you seek.
