Gary, I checked the Index to Berks County Atlas which has the names of property owners in 1876. There are 14 listings of Machemer/ Machmer, the majority of which are in Upper Bern Twp and areas close to Hamburg, PA.
I don't see a Henry or Israel listed, there are 3 listed
as J Machmer.
The Cemetery records of St Michael's Church, Tilden Twp
which location was part of Upper Bern in 1876 shows
over 30 Machemer/ Machmer burials, many of them in the
1800's. There were at least 6 Machmer familes having
children baptized at St Michael's between 1850 and 1880.

Do you know if your ancestors lived in that part of
Berks County? If you have any additional information
perhaps I can help you find something.
