I'm searching for information on the parents, siblings, and family of my gg grandmother:
Margaret WIEKE, b 10 Feb 1818, Hollidaysburg, PA, d 1906, in Lennox, Taylor, IA
+ m John Samuel MARDIS, b 30 Jul 1818 in Bedford, Franklin, PA
I have unconfirmed family records indicating her father was Jonathan WIEKE, mother unknown.
On the 1860 and 1870 US Census, there are several families with the surnames WIKE and WYKE in Blair County. These listings include three women of the right age to be Margaret's mother:
- Magdelena WYKE b abt 1802, living in Huston Twp, Blair Co
- Maria WYKE b abt 1784, living in Huston Twp, Blair Co
- and Mary WIKE b abt 1798, living in Woodbury Twp, Blair Co
On the 1840 US Census, there are several WIKE and WYKE families living in Huntingdon County. Blair County was formed in 1846 from portions of Huntingdon and Bedford Counties.
Would love to share notes and information with anyone researching this surname (all spellings) in Blair County.
