Not sure if anyone got back to you or not. A search of the courthouse records came up empty. Marriage records do not start until late 1885. There are no birth certificates until 1907. However there are birth records from 1886-1906 and John was not listed. There are also death records for the time period and James is not listed. There is also no listing in Deed or Sheriff records. So, if anything happened to him, it happened out of the area.
Sorry there was not any info to help.
