Hi Sara, very common last names for that area... One line is Evans...Daniel and Sarah Ann Evans from Wales who came here with their daughter Mary Louise and son Morgan William in 1873. Once here they settled first in Rahn and had a daughter Elizabeth, then Lansford and had a daughter Anna Florence. Anna was my great grandmother. The house in Lansford was on West Bertsch St...354. Anna married Thomas Matthew Shinton and they lived at 352 W Bertsch St. They had children Morgan E, Elizabeth Whildin (my grandmother), Robert (who owned the gas station down by the high school field...like an arco or exon on the corner in Lansford on a main st. The swimming pool may also have been there but I haven't been there in about 50 years so I am going by the memories of a 6 year old. He was married to Grace Reabold who ran Camp Greenwood on Hauto where I went every summer until they turned it into houses. There was another son, Thomas M. Thomas Matthew Shinton the father was the President of Lansford school board back in the day and may have been like a mine superintendent or something like this. Robert Shinton took over his post on school board when he died. Morgan Shinton married Elizabeth McMichaels and they had a daughter Ann Shinton who had daughters, Beth Ann and Alynn Degadis who graduated from Lansford High. I know that Ann's infant daughter is buried on top of her grandmother. Thomas Matthew Shinton's parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Shinton, and his father I believe was John Shinton (Wales) and Elizabeth Shinton (Wales). Only the Thomas Matthews Shinton generation and forward was born in the 20th century. John Shinton was born 1811 and Daniel Evans 1833. I'm trying to substantiate the data I have with death data and I can't find it online. I'm also planning a visit to the Carbon County archives office in Jim Thorpe next Friday though I suspect I will have limited success due to the age of the records I am looking for. I'd also love to know if there are descendants still alive in Lansford or the surrounds, but I think that those that are came from a different line of Shinton's and Evans. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. I'm actually in Northampton so Jim Thorpe is a hop/skip/jump and a pretty day...Lansford a bit more but I haven't been there in so many years it will be good to visit! If I can return the favor for you ever by researching something for you please let me know! Robin Notify Administrator about this message?
