I believe you should look in the area of modern day Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. After the athlete Jim Thorpe died in 1953 the boroughs of Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk decided to become one town and change the name (with the hope it would revitalize the economy of the area).
