I really believe that this name 'started life' with another spelling, for I've been transcribing Chester Co census, tax lists, landowners, and many others for a long time and I have never run into it before. It is in none of my Chester County books, including the history of the county, and the 1765 Chester Archives...nor is it in any wills, in any way, for Chester, Cumberland, Del, Lanc, Mont, Phil, York or Montgomery Cos., up to around 1825. ( I checked the web and see that the spelling Efan seems to be used, too, so I checked the will cd for that spelling too, with no luck, I'm afraid..
