Don't know if you're aware of this or not, but Davis is an extremely common name in Chester county, and akin to Smith or Jones. It is a Welsh name, who had a peculiar naming pattern that caused the surname to be a male given name...also, the spellings Davies, David, Davis are used interchangably though the records, so you have your work cut out for you. Without further info on Benjamin (such as some of his children, etc, it's going to be nigh impossible to figure out if he is any of those in various local resources.)
I checked the CD of PA wills, and there is no will in the name Davis/Davies/David for the year 1817...how sure are you that the date is correct? (there are several a few years before this date).
